Monday 11 December | 16:30-17:30 | El Salvador – CCAD Pavilion
Co-hosted with: SICA/CCAD
Climate change is having a significant impact on Central America, a region that is particularly vulnerable to the effects of extreme weather events, sea level rise and other climate-related phenomena. The Central American Integration System (SICA) includes seven Central America nations and the Dominican Republic. SICA member countries have been making considerable efforts to fulfill their commitments under the Paris Agreement and implement their NDCs, but they are facing numerous challenges. Recognizing that transparency enables countries to set meaningful climate targets, track progress, inform policy, and mobilize financial support for greater climate ambition, SICA countries join forces in the new ICAT climate action transparency hub for the SICA region, hosted by the Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD) and a regional center based in Belize.
The event will share the progress made by SICA countries in transparency of climate action and the prospects of support through the new hub. Representatives from participating countries will share their ongoing initiatives in climate action transparency and their hopes for the regional hub’s value-added contributions to their national efforts. ICAT representatives will expand on these perspectives by outlining the potential of the SICA regional hub, drawing upon the experiences gained from ICAT’s other hubs.
