A new ICAT project was launched this week in Maputo, Mozambique, with a workshop organized by the National Directorate for Climate Change.
The event brought together government representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Economy and Finance, and Land and Environment, alongside international experts. Three Mozambican expert consultants in climate transparency and coordination, carbon markets, and adaptation have been engaged to support the project. At the workshop, they presented their activity plans and timelines, while participants provided feedback to ensure alignment with project goals and related initiatives.
This is the third collaboration between ICAT and the Mozambican government. The first two projects, the most recent completed in 2023, focused on building institutional arrangements, legal frameworks, and measurement, reporting and verification systems to support data collection, reporting, and policy impact assessment in the energy sector. Additional needs were identified through this initial work, leading to the continuation of Mozambique’s collaboration with ICAT through the new project.
Mozambique’s National Directorate for Climate Change under the Ministry of Land and Environment is leading the project implementation, with support from international climate change transparency experts from the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre.
