Friday, 1 December | 16:45—18:15 | Side-Event Room 1 & livestreaming
Co-hosted with: Antigua & Barbuda, GHGMI
In the face of mounting climate change challenges, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are demonstrating remarkable resilience and leadership. They are among the most vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change. Despite their negligible contributions to global greenhouse gas emissions, they are actively advancing their mitigation efforts. Amidst adversity, SIDS are leading the charge by championing transparency as a critical driver of climate action and sustainable development. By embracing transparency and harnessing the power of data, SIDS are propelling climate action across sectors, paving the way for sustainable development.
The event will examine how SIDS are leveraging transparency to effectively design and implement climate policies and track their NDCs, showcasing their leadership in climate action. The Hon. Sir Molwyn Joseph, Minister of Health, Wellness & The Environment of Antigua and Barbuda, will make a high-level opening address. A panel of expert speakers, including high-level government officials and national experts from ICAT partner countries, such as Antigua and Barbuda, Maldives, Samoa and Fiji, and the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute will unite to share insights and strategies for enhanced transparency to empower climate action in SIDS.
