Co-hosted by ICAT and the Government of Peru
Implementation of Article 6 mechanism requires the development of solid national regulation, institutional arrangements and infrastructure, as well as the dissemination of information and capacity building for different stakeholders including state and non state actors. Sharing milestones achieved and lessons learned by different countries will contribute to strengthen the article 6 implementation considering the transparency and environmental integrity principles, the contribution to sustainable development as well as the climate ambition the NDC and Paris Agreement goals require.
In recent years, Peru has achieved important milestones related to the design and implementation of article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Peru and Switzerland signed the first ever bilateral cooperation agreement on article 6 and currently is working on the design of another cooperation agreement with Singapore. Peru has also designed the legal procedures and institutional arrangements necessary to implement article 6 in the country. These are currently under a public consultation process to receive feedback from different stakeholders.
The progress made by Peru reflects its leading role in cooperative approaches to climate action with a greater sense of urgency and ambition and its commitment to share with all the Parties its experiences to contribute to the achievement of NDC and the linkage with Article 6’s implementation.
