In an address to members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, H.E. Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, welcomed the opening of a regional centre for climate action transparency in Douala, Cameroon.
The President’s speech – in French – can be viewed in the video below.
The following is an unofficial summary of his remarks in English: Addressing the member states of ECCAS and the peoples of Central Africa, President Tshisekedi highlighted ECCAS’s work on the preservation of the environment and the fight against climate change. It is in this context that ECCAS will be equipped in the next few days with a regional centre for climate action transparency, situated in Douala, Cameroon. This centre, which will be a global first, is dedicated to – among others – capacity building of the countries and other stakeholders involved in climate change action, in connection with economic development. The President also pointed to the importance of preserving and consolidating common values, strengthening capacity to ensure transmission to future generations and finding a sustainable solution to the question of the financing for the community of Central African States.
About ICAT’s Regional Transparency Hubs
Regional transparency hubs were established by ICAT to build capacity on a local level for climate activity. There are two regional hubs, one in Central Asia, and the other in Central Africa.
The role of the regional hubs is to pilot, adapt, and scale solutions that are tailored to the respective regional environments and the needs of its member countries. By fostering peer-to-peer engagement and sharing of experiences, the regional hubs enable a thriving community of practice for climate transparency. By focusing on local needs, the hubs strengthen countries’ capacity to maintain and continually enhance robust transparency frameworks that deliver domestic benefits and are hence sustained over the long-term.
