Key steps for a robust MRV system steer Brazil toward effective NDC implementation

Brazil’s ICAT project has set a solid basis for achieving and tracking the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets. Conducted by the Centro Brasil no Clima (CBC) and the Centro Clima/COPPE/UFRJ, the recently concluded ICAT project developed scenarios of how Brazil’s NDC targets can be achieved and, based on these scenarios, formulated a set of indicators to monitor the implementation of the country’s NDCs.  Read more

Mr. Sirkis was a visionary and determined leader. He recognized early on the need for a strong global response to the climate challenge and the important role Brazil can and must play as part of that global response. As the Executive Director of the Centro Brasil no Clima, Mr. Sirkis championed climate action transparency in Brazil. ICAT begins work with 6 new partner countries

Transparency in the Covid-19 recovery: Virtual conference seeks climate and sustainable development synergies

Through three in-depth webinars, UNEP DTU Partnership joins a diverse range of experts and practitioners to delve in to, how countries and stakeholders leverage climate & SDGs synergies for their efforts to recover better and stronger from the Covid-19 pandemic. In one of the sessions, UNEP DTU Partnership will present and discuss opportunities and challenges for national MRV/transparency systems to align pandemic recovery plans with global and national goals for climate and sustainable development. Sri Lankan MRV ensures transparent and impactful NDCs

Overcoming obstacles: ICAT continues to assist Vietnam in its efforts to increase transparency in climate action and reporting

The first virtual workshop hosted by UNEP DTU Partnership took place from 23rd to 24th of April as part of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) technical training in Vietnam and introduced high-level Vietnamese officials to ICAT methodologies and the UNEP DTU Partnership GACMO model for NDC progress tracking. Independent evaluation: ICAT is successfully supporting developing countries build an evidence base for their climate actions and policies

Having comprehensive data and information frameworks in place enables countries not only to report internationally on their climate action, but also for them to formulate better policies supporting national development. However, this is easier said than done – countries are at different stages of development, with different levels of capacity. Equipping countries with the proper tools and resources is the key to making that happen – this is where ICAT comes in. Read more
